Klopp backs Oxlade-Chamberlain to become a goalscorer

Speaking to The Guardian, Jurgen Klopp has said that he wants Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to realise his goal scoring ability and he cannot believe that Arsenal wasted that potential.

The England international joined Liverpool for £35m in the summer window in a move that left football fans scratching their head as the 24-year-old rejected a new contract from former employers Arsenal.

Oxlade-Chamberlain faces Arsenal on Friday night at the Emirates Stadium in what will be his first appearance against them since he left. Oxlade-Chamberlain has started five games for Liverpool and has made ten appearances off the bench with chances in the first team being low since his arrival on deadline day.

The winger scored 20 goals in 198 appearances for Arsenal during his six years at the North London club.

The Englishman has impressed recently and Klopp feels that his goal scoring ability wasn’t noticed at Arsenal because of the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. Oxlade-Chamberlain has worked hard on the training ground and his contribution hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Liverpool boss.

I think that the biggest improvement and potential for him is being involved in goalscoring situations. It is unbelievable but he was not asked for this too much in the past.
If you watch Arsenal in the past their two decisive players were Ozil and Sanchez. They are involved in a lot of moments and decisive passes.
Here we put it on more shoulders, much more shoulders. If he is on the pitch he needs to be involved in these situations. At the moment it’s all good but I also see there is space for improvement.
