Klopp confirms Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered ligament damage

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered ankle ligament damage.

The midfielder was seen on crutches after Liverpool’s Club World Cup win over Flamengo, with Klopp now revealing the extent of the injury.

Klopp says that he will be out for Thursday’s game against Leicester and their clash with Wolves on Sunday, with no return date set after that.

This is a blow for Liverpool and Oxlade-Chamberlain given that he was just coming back and finding his best form again in midfield. He has scored five goals in all competitions this season and was firmly in Klopp’s midfield rotation in the Premier League.

Liverpool will now be hoping that it is weeks rather than months that he is out for, with a crucial stretch of Premier League games coming up. If he is ruled out for several months, it could force the club into doing more business in the January transfer window – after already signing Minamino from Salzburg.
