Jurgen Klopp has criticised what he has described as “crazy” Premier League scheduling ahead of next Friday’s opening game of the 2019/20 season against Norwich City.
According to the Mirror, Klopp is frustrated by the fact that Liverpool will open the new Premier League season on Friday night against the Canaries while the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all play on Sunday.
I would much prefer to have had the Sunday game because that would have given us two more days of preparation. We had the last game in the Champions League Final on June 1 and now the first game of the new Premier League season against Norwich. That doesn’t sound it’s exactly like it should be to me. Who can have this idea? It’s crazy. Our last game against Tottenham in the Champions league Final was three weeks after everybody played their last game in the Premier League.

So does he have a point?

You can definitely forgive Klopp for feeling a little hard done by here. As he correctly pointed out, his Liverpool side finished their season three weeks later than anyone else in the Premier League, aside Tottenham, but begin the 2019/20 campaign earlier than their rivals. And though it is only a matter of a day or two, his frustrations are certainly understandable.
