Klopp refuses to comment on Barcelona’s Coutinho interest

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to comment on Barcelona’s supposed interest in midfielder Phillipe Coutinho.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the playmaker with Neymar on the verge of a world-record transfer.

Neymar is set to complete a €222m move to Ligue 1 side PSG, with Coutinho thought to be top of Barcelona’s wishlist to replace the star forward.

However, Klopp has refused to talk about the matter, telling reporters to not waste their energy in asking him such questions.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Klopp said this:

Don’t waste your energy. In this moment it’s about transfers and I’ve nothing to say. I cannot talk about this just because a Barcelona guy starts talking. Did he say they come to Liverpool and do business? Something like this?

They want to come over? They are funny. I don’t want things like this.

This came after Liverpool lost to Atletico Madrid on penalties in the Audi Cup final, having held them to a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Coutinho was rested for the clash, having played a starring role in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Bayern Munich the night before.

The 25-year-old scored 14 goals in all competitions for Liverpool last season, leading to interest from Barcelona.
