Klopp tips Dalglish to replace him at Liverpool – but has that ship sailed?

Sir Kenny Dalglish would be a nostalgic replacement for Jurgen Klopp, but one that would make no sense in the long-term.

The legendary Scot last took charge of Liverpool in 2012, having cleaned up the mess created by Roy Hodgson.

Dalglish was eventually replaced by Brendan Rodgers, however, with owners FSG feeling he had taken them as far as he could.

Having been asked about his potential successor by comedian John Bishop, Klopp mentioned both Dalglish and Steven Gerrard as obvious candidates:

Maybe Kenny {Dalglish] would be first choice to replace me, but they would probably bring Stevie [Gerrard] down from Glasgow.

If you ask who should follow me, I’d say Stevie.

Dalglish is arguably the most popular and influential figure in the history of Liverpool Football Club, having achieved so much as both player and manager at Anfield.

Klopp’s remarks should be taken with a pinch of salt, however, with Dalglish surely unlikely to ever manage Liverpool again.

At 68, he will hopefully be in his 70s by the time Klopp calls it a day at Liverpool, so there is little logic in him returning.

Gerrard is the obvious choice, but he should only be considered if he is good enough, rather than being given the job because of his legendary playing career on Merseyside.
