Lallana hails Liverpool’s “sixth sense” after Aston Villa win

Liverpool’s ability to dig deep and never know when they are beaten is increasingly coming to the fore.

The Reds have found themselves in numerous precarious situations this season, but have produced late comebacks to earn priceless wins, as well as a draw away to Manchester United.

The most recent example of this never-say-die attitude came on Saturday, as Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane scored late on to seal a miraculous 2-1 win at Aston Villa.

Speaking after the game, Adam Lallana discussed Liverpool’s unrivalled belief late on in games:

It’s almost like a sixth sense.

We knew at half-time that, if we got one goal, it’s going to count. We got it late but we still had time. It doesn’t surprise me that we got a second goal.

We made 11 changes but as a squad you still gain momentum just from being there, even the lads who didn’t play.

We took that and, even though we weren’t at our best in the first half, it helps towards the ‘never say never’ [attitude]. We’ve just got that momentum [and] teams worry when it’s late.

While some rival supporters are quick to label Liverpool as ‘lucky’ at the moment, there is nothing fortunate about their late antics.

Jurgen Klopp has instilled a winning mentality in his players that means they never give up, while opponents often shrink in the closing moments against them.

Whisper it quietly, but it’s the signs of champions, as the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City have shown down the years.
