Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders was on top form on Tuesday afternoon, taking charge of press conference duties.
The Dutchman was full of insight, impressing hugely and earning lots of praise from Reds supporters.
One of the topics Lijnders discussed was the impact of Vitor Matos, who arrived from Porto earlier this month, taking on the role of elite development coach.
Speaking to the press, the 36-year-old went as far as to say that he has been the Reds’ key acquisition this year:
For me, he is our best signing of the season. He is a talented coach, a very intelligent coach. He can make the next step with all these young players. We already see the impact he made on them.
Having one really intelligent, talented coach for young players – one, he can inspire eight or nine of them. It’s really important to have the right people in front of them.
He connects. Of course, he influences the boys on the pitch and trains with them, but he connects departments. So he connects our Academy, Alex [Inglethorpe] and Critch [Neil Critchley] with them; he connects me and Jürgen, of course; he connects Julian Ward [loan pathways manager] and Michael Edwards [sporting director].
So he is basically the connector of these three parts of the club. It’s good, we’re really happy that he’s here.

Liverpool are being run in almost perfect fashion at the moment and it’s not only the players who are proving to be ideal signings.
Matos arrived with a big reputation and is clearly impressing greatly in his first month at Anfield.
While Jurgen Klopp is the the main man, none of what Liverpool are achieving under the German would be possible without those working alongside him.
Lijnders is a massive part of the Reds’ success, as is Matos.
