Liverpool 2-0 Porto: Four findings

Returning to Anfield after a win at the weekend, Liverpool hosted Porto for a European night in the Champions League. The Reds put one foot in the semi-finals with a comfortable 2-0 win.

Liverpool jumped to an early lead when Naby Keita scored his second in consecutive starts in the fifth minute, informing the visitors that it might be a long night.

Before the half-hour mark, Roberto Firmino capped off a brilliant sequence that saw Jordan Henderson put a beautifully weighted pass to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who put a low cross on a plate for the Brazilian to tap home.

By the end of the first half Liverpool were already well in charge of the match and as the second half began looked like they were about to mount thrashing.

Shortly after the break Said Mané had a goal chalked off on a very narrow offside call. Again, it was Henderson pulling strings and sending the ball in for Mané to finish. After that, the Reds eased off slightly. While the still sought opportunities, there was a greater patience.

Suggesting luck helped glean a clean sheet might be overstating, but not putting Porto to the sword gave the visiting side hope they might steal an away goal. To their credit, they did not wilt or waste away. Porto continued to play and keep Liverpool honest to the end. Ultimately, the gulf in quality was too wide for the Portuguese club to cover.

Here are four findings from the match.
