Liverpool ace: Brendan Rodgers had to go

Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino says that the managerial change that brought Jurgen Klopp to Anfield in place of Brendan Rodgers was a necessary one.

The Brazilian made a £29m switch from Hoffenheim to Merseyside in the summer, but only started four games under Rodgers before the Ulsterman was dismissed in early October.

A 1-1 draw at Everton was the final straw for Rodgers, who Firmino believes had to go.

He said: “It was a short period [under Rodgers]. I considered him a great manager but I didn’t get much playing time under him.

When results don’t come along, it is a must to switch managers.

The versatile playmaker is excited to see where new manager Klopp can take the Reds, and is encouraged by the progress already made under the former Borussia Dortmund boss.

“I think Klopp has the typical Germany mentality, which I am used to as I played for four years in Germany,” he said.

“I do like his German methods, he concentrates and focuses on what he wants. I think he will help us. We are already getting what he wants from us.

He brings good vibes, we are on a positive path and we are always aiming high.

Firmino’s form has noticeably improved since Klopp arrived, and with injuries to other attacking players, the 24-year-old could get plenty of games under the German.

At Hoffenheim, Firmino registered 41 goals in 144 competitive appearances – but he has yet to get off the mark for the Reds.

His most impressive term in Germany was 2013-14, when he netted 16 goals in 33 outings.
