Liverpool and Milan to battle for signature of Andre Gomes

Liverpool are set to battle with AC Milan for the signature of Andre Gomes, according to Calciomercato, per MundoDeportivo

According to the Italian media, Reds representatives have already met with Gomes’ brother and talks have taken place. With the Portuguese international admitting that it has been hard adapting to life in Barcelona since signing in the summer of 2016, the Anfield club and Milan have been fighting it out to get a deal done.

In an interview with Spanish outlet Panenka, Gomes opened up on his struggles since joining the Catalan giants, admitting “I do not feel good in the field”, as well as adding that “I’m not enjoying what I can do” – implying that “more pressure” has led to his tumultuous campaign for Ernesto Valverde’s side.

Therefore, this prompted the Merseysiders to immediately take notice and with three years left on his contract, this has led to talks already taking place between Liverpool and Gomes’ family.

However, it hasn’t just been the Reds who have been plotting a swoop for the central midfielder either. Massimiliano Mirabelli, has reportedly asked scouts to remain on Gomes’ radar over the coming few days, with the 24-year-old have been involved during Portugal’s 2-1 triumph over Egypt on Friday and is also set to feature against the Netherlands during the international break.

It has been understood that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been targeting the ex-Valencia man as a direct replacement for midfielder Emre Can, who has been linked with a move abroad to Italian giants Juventus on several occasions upon his contract expiring this summer.
