Rodrygo truly announced himself as a Real Madrid player on Wednesday night, scoring a hat-trick for the Spanish giants.
The 18-year-old took home the match ball after a scintillating performance, inspiring Madrid to a 6-0 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Although Rodrygo is now starring at Santiago Bernabeu, it could have been a very different story, according to former Manchester City midfielder Elano.
In an interview with ESPN Brasil, he claims Liverpool attempted to sign him during his Santos days:
There was a period when there was very strong negotiation from Liverpool for him to leave when he was still at the academy.
The amount was very low, but they wanted to go.

It is an interesting development and it looks as though the Reds missed out on a special talent.
At just 18, huge things are expected of Rodrygo and his midweek hat-trick has only enhanced his reputation.
Liverpool aren’t doing too badly in wide attacking areas, though, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane among the best in the world in their respective positions.
Still, it would have been nice to have sealed a deal for Rodrygo, too.
