We are finally through the to knockout stages of the treble hosted 2026 World Cup out in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico and I am not sure whether the Group stages with their hydration break sponsorships have lasted longer than Liverpool’s chase for Yan Diomande.
It probably does not really matter at this stage, whatever the truth may be of the many stories and claims we saw on the summer transfer window speculation rumour mill linking us with firm offers for the 19 year old, Ivory Coast international talent, it now seems very unlikely that RB Leipzig would overly entertain our attempts at negotiations. As we entered the new week, there were incredibly strong reports that the highly rated winger had decided that the French Ligue 1 and Paris Saint-Germain would be his preferred future destination, and with talks on that potential outcome proceeding (with claims that personal terms have already been provisionally agreed), we are wise to now look elsewhere from our Anfield offices.
Having already secured £34.5 million Spanish international winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna which few on the Virgin Bet app would have seen coming, reports now suggest that new manager Andoni Iraola is on board with our attentions turning to a possible PSG casualty should Diomande end up at their Parc des Prince doors.
It is now being claimed that Bradley Barcola is now ‘pushing’ for a move away from the club, knowing full well that his performances so far for France at the World Cup have put his name further up the shortlists of a number of clubs. For us, he is a pretty obvious alternative candidate to Diomande.
It should be noted that one of the main outlets pushing the new Barcola claims on Monday were Talksport, so have your tonne of salt ready, however a number of usually more reliable outlets were also carrying it – but with slightly less emphasis – but it is not too difficult to believe that as a fellow highly rated, just slightly older, international talent attacker would feature on our radar somewhere.
Given the talk of Barcola’s future, he has quite naturally been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, and it should be noted that as things stand he does only have two years remaining on his existing contract at the club, so a strong World Cup would favour PSG now looking to capitalise and cash in on him. They could already guarantee a significant mark up on the 45 million Euro fee they paid Lyon back in 2023 for him, but despite still being a key player for Luis Enrique and winning a plethora of major silverware since originally making the move, in more recent times his minutes on the pitch have suffered as he has fallen down the pecking order behind Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.
Having only featured as a substitute in both of their last two Champions League Finals, it seems his patience has run out, so for now it is simply a matter of waiting to see whether or not we have any real interest here – and if we do, what kind of ballpark price they would be willing to deal at.
