Liverpool have confirmed the signing of coach Vitor Matos, The Athletic’s James Pearce has confirmed on Twitter.
The 31-year-old will join the club from Porto, becoming the latest member of Jurgen Klopp’s backroom team.
Matos will take up the role of elite development coach, acting as a link between the first team and the academy, at Melwood and Kirkby respectively.
It is a position Pepijn Lijnders previously filled at Liverpool, before the highly-rated coach became Klopp’s assistant last season.

Although fans will only really get truly excited about new players arriving, Matos is highly thought of in his own profession.
While Klopp is the mastermind behind the Reds’ brilliance, he is helped along by an outstanding backroom team.
At 31, Matos is also at a point in his life where he could feel more relevant to first team and academy players, given his age.
If he can have anything like the impact Lijnders has – who else has forgotten about Zeljko Buvac? – Liverpool will be in good hands.
