Liverpool defender set to miss Bordeaux clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Martin Skrtel is likely to miss Thursday’s home game with Bordeaux through illness.

The Reds can secure their passage into the last 32 of the Europa League with a win over the Ligue 1 side, but they will have to do so without their Slovakian centre-back.

Skrtel, 30, put in a superb performance in Liverpool’s win over Premier League title favourites Manchester City on Saturday, and put a stamp on the victory by slamming home the Reds’ fourth goal of the evening.

Mamadou Sakho is also out with a knee injury that he sustained in the defeat by Crystal Palace before the international break.

Dejan Lovren, who accompanied Klopp in the pre-match news conference, is available for selection, and so too is Kolo Toure, who came on in the dying stages against his former club at the weekend.

Bordeaux are not in good domestic form at the moment – they sit 13th in Ligue 1 with 18 points from 14 games.
