Liverpool have denied approaching Carlo Ancelotti about replacing Brendan Rodgers as manager, according to the Guardian.
Reports in Italy had claimed that Fenway Sports Group had identified Ancelotti as Rodgers’ replacement as pressure mounts on the Northern Irishman.
Rodgers managed to survive an end of season review in the summer after a disappointing campaign which ended in a 6-1 defeat to Stoke City, in Steven Gerrard’s final game for the club.
Having come through that, it was Rodgers’ backroom staff who suffered the consequence of a poor season with assistant manager Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh both leaving Merseyside.
The Reds spent £32.5m on forward Christian Benteke and £29m on midfielder Robert Firmino in the summer and Rodgers will have the chance to integrate his new signings, with Ancelotti not being approached to replace the Ulsterman.
Fifty-six-year-old Ancelotti is known for winning trophies at pretty much every club who he manages.
He’s won the Champions League three times in his management career – twice with AC Milan and once with Real Madrid.
The former Chelsea boss also lifted the Premier League trophy and the FA Cup during his two-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
