Liverpool fans are full of respect for Everton after wonderful Hillsborough gesture

Everton travelled to Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, winning 2-0 at Hillsborough thanks to a Dominic Calvert-Lewin brace.

While the Blues’ rivalry with Liverpool is well-documented, what happened in Sheffield in 1989 also had a life-changing impact on many of their own fans, too.

The Everton faithful showed their class at Hillsborough, revealing a banner that read: ‘Two Clubs One City’.

These Liverpool supporters have been showing their appreciation for their Merseyside neighbours on Twitter.

It is a wonderful gesture by those responsible in the Everton end, going to show that rivalries can be put aside at times, with some things more important than football.

The Hillsborough disaster was a horrifying incident that affected the entire city of Liverpool, with supporters of both clubs losing people close to them.

Thirty years on, it is heartwarming to see the 96 still remembered – Everton’s fans deserve huge credit.
