Christian Benteke was a huge disappointment at Liverpool, having arrived for a big-money fee from Aston Villa in 2015.
The Belgian simply never felt like a Reds player, at a time when they were playing a certain style under Brendan Rodgers and then Jurgen Klopp.
He scored just 10 goals in 42 appearances, before eventually being shifted on to Crystal Palace.
Bizarrely, Benteke has responded to a question from SPORTbible, claiming he could still start in Liverpool’s front-three:
Yeah. It’s easy to say now because I play for Palace and they play for Liverpool, but when you train every day with the same players and the manager believes in you, it’s easier.
These Reds supporters have been left shocked by the 28-year-old’s remarks, taking to Twitter to react.

These are quite staggering remarks from Benteke, who has clearly peaked as a player, partly due to injury problems.
He didn’t feel like the right signing when Rodgers snapped him up in 2015 and he is now an inferior player.
Liverpool’s front-three are the most feared in world football currently, so quite how Benteke genuinely feels he could also shine in the Reds’ attack beggars belief.
There’s being confident in your own ability and then there’s just being wide of the mark.
Benteke very much falls into the latter.
