Joe Gomez has received criticism for the part he played in Liverpool’s Champions League exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid.
The Reds won’t be able to retain their status as European champions this season, following a 3-2 defeat at Anfield on Wednesday night.
In truth, Jurgen Klopp’s men played superbly but were ultimately let down by a poor performance from Adrian, which proved costly.
On a night when numerous Liverpool players shone, from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Mohamed Salah, one man who didn’t have his best outing was Gomez.
While the 22-year-old did plenty right alongside Virgil van Dijk, he was still a slightly shaky presence.
Gomez played a negative role in Marcos Llorente’s second goal of the night – a moment that effectively ended Liverpool’s hopes of progressing – after backing off and allowing the Atletico man to shoot.
These Liverpool supporters were left frustrated by Gomez on Twitter, mainly because of that one incident.

I thought the midfield were exceptional last night. Only downside apart from the obvious mistakes was Joe Gomez. Seemed very nervy and was bullied a little.
