Liverpool fans celebrate one of the great forgotten goals in Reds history

A number of Liverpool supporters have been remembering Vladimir Smicer’s late winner against Chelsea, on the 18th anniversary of the goal.

The former Reds midfielder was an effective figure at Anfield during the 2000s, providing industry and versatility.

Smicer famously won the 2005 Champions League with Liverpool, not only scoring in the final against AC Milan, but also converting his penalty in the shootout.

One of the Czech’s greatest contributions in a Reds shirt came at home to Chelsea back in the 2001/02 season, however.

Gerard Houllier’s side knew a win over the Blues would take them to the top of the Premier League on March 24th, 2002.

With the game goalless heading into injury time, Smicer brilliantly volleyed home from Emile Heskey’s cross, sending Anfield wild in the process.
