Some Liverpool supporters have been expressing their love for the ageless James Milner, after an eye-catching statistic emerged from the win over Ajax.
The Reds got the better of the Dutch giants on Wednesday night, getting their Champions League campaign off to a winning start.
It was a testing evening in Amsterdam for Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League champions, but they showed defensive resilience throughout and profited from Nicolas Tagliafico’s own goal before half-time.
It isn’t a match that will necessarily live long in the memory, particularly compared to some of the great European nights of the past, but the nature of the win was extremely pleasing.
Milner was brought into the midfield by Klopp, with the 34-year-old much more of a squad player these days.
In truth, the veteran didn’t have his greatest night at the office in terms of his all-round game, but one aspect stood out hugely.
Milner covered more ground than any other player at the Johan Cruyff Arena, as highlighted by LFCTS (@LFCTS) on Twitter, with a distance of 12.63km achieved by the midfielder.

Considering he was the oldest outfield player, it is testament to Milner’s professionalism.
