Naby Keita was handed a wonderful opportunity to shine on Monday evening, starting against West Ham in the absence of Jordan Henderson.
With the skipper expected to be out injured for around three weeks, a spot in Liverpool’s midfield is there for the taking.
On a night when Jurgen Klopp’s side under-performed, despite winning 3-2 at home to the Hammers, the £38m-rated midfielder was arguably his team’s most disappointing performer.
Having made a promising start, finding himself involved in Gini Wijnaldum’s opener, his influence waned and he was replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain early in the second half, who performed far better.
The statistics actually suggested Keita played well, but watching the game with your own eyes, it was hard not to feel underwhelmed by the Guinean’s impact, as he continues to flatter to deceive in a Liverpool shirt.
These Reds supporters took to Twitter to reveal their disappointment at Keita’s showing, as he blew a great opportunity to catch the eye.
Naby Keita was disappointing last night. Talented technically but underwhelming to date.
I’d love to see him driving at teams, winning the ball high, on the front foot. Chamberlain offered that when he came on & changed the game #LFC #LIVWHU

Despite playing half as many minutes tonight, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain created twice as many chances (two to one), made as many key passes (two), and recovered the ball as many times (five) as Naby Keita. Will that influence the selection at Watford?https://t.co/yeJVCX2hxk

Careful mate according to the #stats he is the second coming of maradona. You are not allowed to base opinions on what you see in a game anymore.
