Liverpool fans have reacted angrily to Ian Wright’s take on England’s penalty against Czech Republic.
Raheem Sterling went down inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot for what can be considered a soft spot-kick.

However, when analysing the challenge, Wright claimed that Sterling “used his experience” to win the penalty, which has enraged fans because of the backlash towards Sadio Mane who won a penalty after a similar challenge against Leicester but was termed as a “diver”.

The difference in terminology is evident. Mane was absolutely blasted within the media over the last week, with rival fans and pundits slamming him for being a diver.
However, now that England’s Sterling has had a similar incident, he’s being praised for being intelligent and clever about how he won the penalty.
There needs to be more consistency when analysing similar types of challenges because it then causes more problems, especially when the bias is as clear as this one.
