In the aftermath of the two successive losses to Swansea and West Brom, Liverpool have been urged to make numerous signings in order to regain order and previous target Riyad Mahrez has once again be linked.
After the sale of Coutinho to Barcelona, Liverpool were immediately linked to the Algerian and supposedly agreed a £49 million transfer but all those links died within an hour of the alleged talks being agreed.
It is clear from the previous games that Liverpool have lacked Coutinho’s ability from midfield to unlock packed defences and many think Mahrez has that same ability to do so, making him an obvious target.
Leicester City boss Claude Puel said Mahrez could be worth “more than £100 million by the summer” which gives fans an insight into how much Mahrez means to Leicester but also the Algerian’s ability. If this was to be Leicester’s asking price, it seems ridiculously excessive but it’s probably to drive away any interest from clubs.
Realistically, I feel that Mahrez won’t come before January 31st. Jurgen Klopp has openly said that any more transfer business is “unlikely” but that was before the humiliating FA Cup exit to West Brom, which provides Liverpool fans, like myself, some hope that we will make some signings before the transfer window slams shut.
If we can not get Mahrez, then Thomas Lemar, who has been left out of Monaco’s squad for the last two games, as the other option.
