Liverpool midfield made zero successful tackles against Red Star

A shocking statistic from Liverpool’s defeat to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday night reveals that the side’s midfield trio made zero successful tackles in the game, the Daily Mail reports.

Liverpool fell to a 2-0 defeat in Serbia with an all-round dismal display.

Jurgen Klopp opted to play James Milner, Adam Lallana and Gini Wijnaldum as a midfield three for the game but between them the trio completed zero successful tackles according to the official UEFA website and stats website WhoScored.

Milner and Wijnaldum played the full 90-minutes, whilst Lallana, who was returning to the starting XI after an injury lay-off, was taken off by the German boss in the 79th minute.

Red Star scored twice in the opening 30 minutes of the game to condemn the Reds to defeat, despite a slightly improved second-half performance from Klopp’s side.

Klopp was asked post-match to ‘put his finger on what went wrong’, to which he replied:

I only have 10 fingers.

Liverpool now occupy second place in Group C with six points, level with leaders Napoli. Paris Saint-Germain have five points, and Red Star sit bottom of the group with four points.
