Liverpool monitoring Camavinga amid interest from European heavyweights

Liverpool are monitoring Rennes teenager Eduardo Camavinga, according to Marca, as translated by Sport Witness.

The 17-year-old has impressed for the Ligue 1 side this season, winning the league’s Player of the Month award back in August, aged just 16 at the time.

Real Madrid are believed to be showing strong interest in Camavinga, but they are joined by Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

The report claims that the Reds are continuing to ‘stalk’ the youngster, ahead of a potential summer move from France.

In order for Liverpool to keep flourishing, I believe Jurgen Klopp needs to plan for the future. Rather than sit still and allow his squad to go past their peak, he must line up future stars who can replace those currently on show.

Camavinga could be exactly that, with the midfielder already achieving so much for somebody so young, making 24 starts in the league this season.

If he signed for Liverpool, it could be as a long-term fix, considering the depth currently at Klopp’s disposal, but the Reds’ midfield isn’t getting any younger.

The likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum won’t go on forever, and Camavinga’s quality in possession – he boasts an impressive 87.7 per cent pass accuracy – and off-the-ball work could make him an ideal fit.

Anfield is arguably one of the most appealing destinations for any player, given Klopp’s reputation and the success currently being achieved on the pitch.
