Liverpool open to offers for Lucas

Liverpool are willing to listen to offers for Lucas, after the Brazilian was omitted from the squad that travelled to Stoke City, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The midfielder, who has been at the club since 2007, was thoroughly disappointed at being snubbed for Liverpool’s season opener, a 1-0 win away at Stoke City.

The report in the Echo suggests that Lucas – who has two years left on his contract and is valued at £8m by Liverpool – is now considering his options, with a move to Italy on the cards.

Inter Milan were interested in the 28-year-old in January, with the player keen to make the switch from Anfield to the San Siro, however Lucas at the time was becoming an established member of the starting XI, and so Rodgers did not want to let him leave.

This is not the case now, with the Reds being prepared to let him leave if the right offer comes in before September 1 – the transfer deadline date.

Lucas, if he decides to stay at Liverpool, will be given the chance to fight for his place in Rodgers’ plans.

However, he is considered the third-choice defensive midfielder for the Reds, with Emre Can and Joe Allen above him in the pecking order.

Lucas did not travel to the Britannia Stadium to watch the Reds’ opening fixture against Stoke, unlike Lazar Markovic and Mamadou Sakho, who were also omitted from Rodgers’ matchday squad.
