Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup after losing the fifth round tie to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with a scoreline of 2-0.
Willian and Ross Barkley were the scorers for the home side, who were by far the better team and deserved the victory.
After a very quick start to the game, Frank Lampard’s men opened the scoring in the 13th minute. They won the ball high up the pitch and Willian’s shot was spilt into the net by Reds keeper Adrian, despite the shot being straight at him.
Liverpool had three golden opportunities to level things up before half-time, but all the three shots came in a single phase of attack, and the Chelsea stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga blocked all three.
Thereafter, Jurgen Klopp’s men chased the game to some extent in the second half but got caught on the counter when Barkley drove from midfield before smashing his effort into the back of the net around the hour mark.
The tie was almost done then, because the visitors looked toothless in the final third and never looked like scoring.
In fact, Chelsea had chances to further increase their lead, but Adrian was on rescue with two top-class saves.
All in all, another poor performance from Liverpool, whose form since the dusk of the winter break has been alarming.
Here’s how we rated the Reds after the game:
