Liverpool Player Ratings: Manchester City (N)

Liverpool have begun their season with a defeat at the hands of Premier League champions Manchester City on penalties after a fascinating Community Shield game.

During the course of 90 minutes, it was a game of two halves, where Pep Guardiola’s men dominated the first, scored and created several other chances.

The Reds came back into it after the break and created a host of opportunities and deserved to be at least level on the final whistle.

Then Claudio Bravo saved a Georginio Wijnaldum penalty in the shootout, that proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Earlier in the day, Raheem Sterling gave City the lead in the 12th minute following a well-worked set-piece routine. The Englishman had other chances to score, but he fluffed his lines.

Liverpool equalised in the 77th minute following their own well-worked set-piece routine.

They had two attempts cleared off the line, one brilliantly by Kyle Walker, and Bravo made several good saves to keep the game level.

Despite the defeat on penalties, Jurgen Klopp’s men looked good fitness wise and the manager would be happy on that front.

Here’s how we rated the Reds’ players after this game:
