Liverpool player ratings: Norwich City (H)

Liverpool kick-started their Premier League campaign with a rather comfortable 4-1 win over promoted Norwich City at a celebratory Anfield.

A Grant Hanley own goal, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi were the scorers for the home side, who raced into a 4-0 lead a half-time. The visitors came back into it after the break and pulled one goal back through Teemu Pukki.

Seven minutes in, Origi delivered a good cross into the box, only to see Hanley putting it in his own net. 12 minutes later, Jurgen Klopp’s men doubled the lead when Roberto Firmino found Salah, who was composed enough to slot past helpless Tim Krul.

It became 3-0 around the half hour mark when a whipped corner from the aforementioned Egyptian found van Dijk in the box. The Dutchman then didn’t even have to jump properly to head the ball into the back of the net.

Origi made it four just before half-time to essentially wrap the points up for the Reds.

Emiliano Buendia threaded in a ball for Pukki to score in the second half, but that was only a consolation for the Canaries.

At the end of the day, a comfortable win for the home side, that was somewhat clouded out by the injury to Alisson in the first half.
