Liverpool Player Ratings: Salzburg (H)

Liverpool survived a massive scare to beat Salzburg 4-3 at Anfield on Wednesday, opening their account in this year’s Champions League.

Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah (2) got the goals for the Reds, while the Austrian team had efforts from Hwang Hee-Chan, Takumi Minamino and Erling Haaland, producing an unthinkable comeback at one stage.

Mane put the Reds ahead in the ninth minute after a well-worked goal with Roberto Firmino, while Robertson made it 2-0 in the 25th minute, after another wonderful effort.

Salah pounced on a rebound to make it 3-0 and it was plain sailing for the home side at that point.

In the 40th minute, however, Hwang got past Virgil van Dijk to pull one back for the away side. They then made it 3-2 in the 56th minute when Minamino fired home.

Four minutes later, Haaland was found completely free two yards from goal and the in-form striker levelled the scores to send the away fans wild.

Just when Jurgen Klopp’s men were looking twitchy, Firmino set up Salah with an important goal to restore confidence.

After that, Liverpool were solid at the back, avoiding any more mishaps and picking up an invaluable victory.
