Liverpool Player Ratings: Southampton (A)

Liverpool showed incredible character to come from a goal down to beat Southampton 3-1 away at St. Mary’s to reclaim top spot in the Premier League table.

Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson were the scorers for the Reds. Shane Long did put the Saints into an early lead though.

Around the ninth minute, a Ryan Bertrand cross was flicked on by Pierre-Emile Hojbjeg in the box to find Long, who was present behind the midfield unmarked. He took a touch and flashed the ball past Alisson to put Southampton 1-0 up.

Nine minutes from half-time, Liverpool equalised when a brilliant Trent Alexander-Arnold cross found the head of Keita, who made no mistake in putting that into the back of the net.

The visitors showed great character in the second half. Eventually, on a break from a Southampton corner, Salah ran half the length of the field with the ball and scored sumptuously to put his team in front 11 minutes from time.

Roberto Firmino assisted Henderson for the third Liverpool goal in the 86th minute to make sure of the points.

The Reds are now back at the top of the table, two points ahead of Manchester City.

The message is clear to Pep Guardiola’s men – over to you!
