Liverpool demolished Watford 5-0 at a bouncing Anfield under the lights to keep the title hopes in their own hands.
Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi were the goalscorers for the Reds, who were rampant from start to finish.
Mane opened the scoring in the ninth, when Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a peach of a cross into the box for the Senegalese star to attack and head the ball into the back of the net.
It was a lovely cross but deadly movement from the attacker, who was playing the centre-forward role in the absence of Roberto Firmino.
Mane doubled his and the team’s tally in the 20th minute when Trent provided another inch-perfect ball into the box. This time, his first touch was poor but he managed to improvise a backheel finish to beat Ben Foster.
Origi made it three in the 66th minute when he cut in from the left-hand side and had a shot towards the near post to beat the Watford keeper. It was poor defending from Hornets right-back Daryl Janmaat on that occasion to allow the attacker to cut inside so easily.
Van Dijk scored the fourth and fifth goals, the first assisted by Alexander-Arnold and the second by Andy Robertson.
