According to Record, via Sport Witness, the Reds has representatives in Portugal on a scouting mission, although it is not specified who they were watching.

David Tavares is thrown in as a potential suitor, with Liverpool linked with a move for the 20-year-old back in the summer.

Timo Werner was also in action – a player who has been tipped to be a potential future Jurgen Klopp signing.

It’s a bit of a guessing game, in truth, but the Benfica-Leipzig clash wasn’t exactly one lacking in quality players.

Werner would be the most exciting future arrival, were Liverpool to make a bid for him ahead of a move next summer.

The Germany international has already scored seven goals in just five appearances this season, including a match-winning brace on Tuesday evening.

His all-round game is perfectly suited to Liverpool’s style, whether it be his work ethic, versatility or ruthlessness in the final third.

Tavares is also a special talent, however, and would represent a long-term acquisition in midfield.
