Liverpool are unlikely to sign Gent star Jonathan David this summer, with the forward favouring a move to the Bundesliga.
The Reds were rumoured to be facing stiff competition from Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City for David’s signature, with the 20-year-old enjoying an impressive season, scoring 18 times in the Belgian First Division A.
There has been a twist in the saga, however, with the player’s future set to lie away from the Premier League.
Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, David’s agent, Nick Mavromaras, talked up the idea of a move to Germany:
Jonathan is ready for the next step. He wants to join the Bundesliga.

In terms of a long-term acquisition, David could tick many of the boxes required to be an ideal signing for Liverpool, so this is a blow. His numbers suggest he is already a prolific attacking player, and he could have learned from the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
That being said, it could provide Rhian Brewster with a boost, as the young striker tries to make the grade at Anfield.
Brewster is on loan at Swansea City currently and he may need to impress during pre-season if he is to show Jurgen Klopp that he can be a key man moving forward.
Four goals in 11 appearances for the Swans is a start – he must continue to kick on, however, showing that the Reds don’t need to be signing someone of David’s ilk.
