Joe Gelhardt would be a hugely exciting signing by Liverpool, immediately filling the void left by Bobby Duncan.
According to Goal‘s Neil Jones, the Reds are “tracking” the Wigan Athletic forward, with Merseyside rivals Everton also in the mix to sign him.
Although the 17-year-old is contracted to remain at the Championship club until next summer, a move could come to fruition before then.
Gelhardt will play for England under-18s for the first time this week, having emerged as one of the Championship most gifted young players.

Liverpool’s transfer business has been outstanding throughout Jurgen Klopp’s tenure, with superb signings made and outgoing players sold for good money.
While it’s a blow to lose Duncan to Fiorentina, eyeing up Gelhardt as a tailor-made replacement is a shrewd move.
The Reds have a battle on their hands to secure the teenager’s services, with Chelsea, Wolves and Leicester also linked with him.
Liverpool are one of the country’s two most exciting options currently, however, along with Manchester City, so they should be seen as front-runners for his signature.
