Liverpool vs. Arsenal: Five key battles

Liverpool face their toughest test of the Premier League season so far on Saturday evening, when Unai Emery’s exciting Arsenal side visit Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have faced relatively straightforward tasks so far in 2019/20 – at home to Norwich City on the opening day and away to Southampton last weekend.

Klopp is yet to lose to Arsenal in his managerial career, having remained unbeaten in his opening seven fixtures against the north London club.

With six goals in their opening two fixtures, the Reds will be looking to continue the German’s impressive record against the Gunners on Saturday.

Arsenal’s arrival to Anfield indicates the first serious test for the Reds this season.

Emery’s men arguably had the best transfer window of their recent history this summer, astutely signing David Luiz for £8 million and also bringing in the impressive Nicolas Pepe for a club-record fee.

It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal have sufficiently recruited to patch up their defensive frailties – Saturday could very much show where they are this season.

With their attacking line-up including prolific goalscorers and creative flair, Liverpool’s defence could be tested to its maximum on Merseyside.

Ahead of the showdown, we have picked out five key battles across the pitch that the Reds must win.
