An abundance of injuries in central defence have resulted in Liverpool asking Aston Villa to cancel Tiago Ilori’s season-long loan from Anfield, according to Andy Hunter of the Guardian.
The Portugal Under-21 international has yet to appear for the Villans this term, but with Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho sidelined, and in-form Dejan Lovren also suffering an injury at Stoke City on Tuesday night, the former Sporting Lisbon defender could have a role at Anfield.

The 22-year-old has not made a competitive appearance for the Reds since his arrival in the summer of 2013.
Needs must for Liverpool, who finished the game at Stoke with Lucas Leiva partnering Kolo Toure at centre-back, and the latter was suffering from cramp late on.
Hunter notes that Bundesliga side Schalke are not keen on allowing Cameroonian defender Joel Matip – a target for Liverpool – to leave the club before his contract expires in the summer.
The Reds’ busy fixture schedule shows no signs of let up in the coming days, as they face Exeter City in the FA Cup on Friday night, before hosting Arsenal and Manchester United in the league the following week.
