Liverpool are set to ask about the availability of Virgil van Dijk in the January transfer window.
According to The Times, Liverpool are ready to move for van Dijk in the coming transfer window, if Southampton make him available.
The report claims that Les Reed – Southampton’s director of football – could stick to his guns and keep hold of Van Dijk.
Southampton held Liverpool – and other clubs – off throughout the summer as they retained their star centre-back.
This is despite van Dijk handing in a transfer request over the summer as he looked to secure a move to Merseyside.
Reports in August claimed that Southampton were looking for up to £70m to let van Dijk leave, with no clubs matching that valuation.
Instead, Liverpool were surrounded in controversy as they were made to apologise for allegedly tapping van Dijk up.
Jurgen Klopp reportedly spoke to van Dijk without Southampton’s permission.
