Liverpool may not have won a Premier League title before – let’s hope that changes later this year – but they have still enjoyed plenty of success in the competition.
There have been low points, without question, most notably the respective reigns of Graeme Souness and Roy Hodgson, but top-four finishes and title challenges have also been shown.
When looking at the best Liverpool teams of the Premier League era, I believe there are four that stand out.
Gerard Houllier’s class of 2000/01 won three cups, also qualifying for the Champions League for the first time.
Then there was Rafa Benitez’s near title-winning side in 2008/09 that pushed a formidable Manchester United team all the way.
In 2013/14, Brendan Rodgers came agonisingly close to securing league glory, while Jurgen Klopp’s 2018/19 and 2019/20 sides have shattered records and lie on the cusp of finally getting over the finish line.
We’ve assessed all the players from those four great teams and come up with this combined XI – do you agree?
