Curtis Jones was Liverpool’s hero on Sunday, on an unforgettable afternoon for the youngster.
Jones curled a stunning effort into the top corner, earning the Reds a 1-0 win at home to Everton in the FA Cup third round.
The 18-year-old has been a star at Liverpool’s academy for years, but this felt like a pivotal moment for him in the first team.
Steven Gerrard knows a thing or two about becoming a star for your boyhood club and he was loving Jones’ goal.
The Liverpool legend took to Instagram to send a three-word message to the midfielder, simply saying, “love it kid”.

This could be the moment that sees Jones go from young hopeful to a regular member of Liverpool’s matchday squad.
He has prodigious talent, but his all-round performance on Sunday was one that showed how much he has matured as a player and he was named as the Man of the Match by the BBC to further prove how well he performed.
Jones may have to bide his time before he becomes a key man, but on this evidence, he shouldn’t be too far away from making a big impact and if Klopp did ever choose to play him in more league games going forward, I certainly wouldn’t have an issue with it.
Every youngster needs to be given an opportunity to shine at some point and Jones was given that chance in the derby and he delivered so he should, in my opinion, be rewarded with more gametime in the near future.
