Lovren ready to leave Liverpool and it’s a risk worth taking for the club

Dejan Lovren looks to be edging closer to a Liverpool departure, with the defender reportedly ‘ready to accept’ a transfer away from Anfield and selling the Croatian could be a risk worth taking.

Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited on Sport Witness, claim that Roma are the latest team to express an interest in the player, amid suggestions a deal could be struck for a fee in the region of £12 million.

Having fallen out of favour at Anfield, Lovren is being heavily linked with moves away from the club to pursue regular game time.

If Liverpool can get a respectable fee in the bank for Lovren, it may be a risk worth taking for Jurgen Klopp.

The centre-back position throws up an interesting conundrum for the Reds. They have the luxury of a fully fit Joe Gomez this time around and beyond him, they have some exciting young players coming through the ranks.

Sepp van den Berg, signed by the club this summer and Ki-Jana Hoever are both eye-catching talents at youth level and will share long-term ambitions to break into the first-team squad in the years to come.

Freeing up Lovren’s space in the squad puts more onus on Gomez to step up and nail down a regular spot, while the experience of Joel Matip and even Fabinho, who can be used there make for useful options to Klopp.

Lovren’s at a stage in his career where he should be playing every week and as someone who will still have international aspirations, you can imagine 13 league appearances last season will not be enough to convince him into staying.
