Man United exposed “real weakness” in Liverpool’s game, claims Heskey

Liverpool produced a poor performance at Manchester United last weekend, arguably finding themselves fortunate to pick up a point.

Adam Lallana’s late equaliser earned the Reds a 1-1 draw, but for large periods, their bitter rivals nullified them.

Although Jurgen Klopp’s side remain top of the Premier League, former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has a few concerns.

In an interview with the Sunday Express, Heskey believes United found a “real weakness” in the Reds’ play, exploiting the space behind full-back pair Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson:

The thing is, Manchester United were uncovering a real weakness in Liverpool, which shows how to play against them.

I don’t think they freeze at Old Trafford, I just think you’ve got to give Man United their due credit. They set up correctly, they stuck to the game-plan and it worked.

Everyone knows that when you play against Liverpool there’s going to be a lot of space in behind the full-backs and they exploited that, and that’s exactly where the goal came from.

Heskey is fair in his assessment, but Klopp is unlikely to be losing too much sleep over the display at Old Trafford.

Liverpool simply suffered an off-day and United upped their game – it is something that will happen from time to time.

Alexander-Arnold and Robertson’s natural attacking tendencies means space will be left behind in their areas of the pitch, but it is only natural, given the Reds’ style of play.
