Manchester United are unlikely to sign Bruno Fernandes in time to face Liverpool, according to Duncan Castles, of the Reach PLC Transfer Window Podcast, cited by the Daily Express.
The Red Devils are reportedly trying to sign the Portuguese midfielder from Sporting CP this month, in a bid to boost their top-four chances.
The report claims that Sporting want Fernandes available for Friday’s derby against Benfica, meaning a move won’t materialise before United head to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Liverpool’s bitter rivals are still the only team to take points off the Reds in the Premier League this season, following a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford back in October.

This is a boost for Liverpool, in my opinion, with Fernandes possessing the ability to make a flying start at United.
That is assuming the move eventually happens, of course.
The 25-year-old has scored 14 goals this season, adding to his tally of 31 in 2018/19.
For an attacking midfielder, that is an outstanding return, highlighting why United are so keen to acquire his signature, especially with such a lack of midfield quality currently.
The likes of Fred, Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard are not in the same league as Fernandes, in terms of end product and influence, scoring just twice between them in all competitions this season.
I believe Liverpool should be far too strong for their opponents this weekend, but any little boost for the visitors needs to be avoided from a Reds perspective.
Signing Fernandes in time for the game would, in our view, have given them a ‘bounce’, but it doesn’t look like that will happen.
