Mario Gotze set to join Liverpool

Mario Gotze will snub Arsenal in favour of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool during the summer transfer window, reports David Maddock of the Mirror.

The Bayern Munich attacker, who worked under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund before moving to Bavaria, has been rumoured to be leaving for the last few weeks and Anfield seems the most likely destination.

The young German is famous for scoring the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final for Germany and has gone on to score 20 goals in 67 Bayern Munich appearances since his big money switch from Dortmund.

The Mirror claim that Gotze, 23, has admitted that Klopp provides Liverpool with a real edge in closing the transfer over rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain as the young German international is keen to hook up with his former boss.

The fee is estimated to be in the region of £15-20m, which would be terrific value given that Gotze has made a mighty 49 appearances for his country, scoring 16 goals in the process and can certainly see himself as a key component in Germany’s first team come the European Championships this summer.
