Milner is a “winner” says Gary Mac

Recently appointed first-team coach Gary McAllister has heaped the praise on Liverpool’s new signing James Milner.

McAllister has been very impressed with the attitude of the Reds’ new number seven and has lauded his professionalism.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, McAllister gave his thoughts on Liverpool’s new vice-captain, and made it clear that he has been impressed with what he has seen so far:

He is a winner, he has won leagues,” said McAllister, who took over as first-team coach in the summer after Liverpool parted company with the man ‘Gary Mac’ succeeded, another former player, Mike Marsh:

His professionalism in the opening three or four weeks that I’ve been here has been outstanding.

McAllister explained that just because a player is older, it doesn’t always mean he has the right type of history but says that’s not the case with Milner.

The Scot also joined Liverpool on a free transfer late in his career and knows that experience isn’t always a positive.

You can bring in players that are a little bit older and have got experience, but their experiences are not necessarily good ones. But he’s got good experience, he knows how to win,” explained McAllister.

The former Scotland international then spoke about the Liverpool midfield as a whole, a position he knows well from his successful playing days:

I think we tick most of the boxes,” said McAllister. “You’ve got people who are specialists at sitting in front of a back four, we’ve got players with great running power, players with skill and guile, people who can run beyond strikers.”

matchday.
