Milner or Lallana set to leave next summer – will on-loan star fill in?

Losing Adam Lallana next summer and allowing Marko Grujic to replace him at Liverpool makes complete sense.

Lallana has become a peripheral figure in recent times, with the Reds moving on while he has arguably gone backwards as a player.

Speaking in a Q&A with The Athletic, James Pearce has revealed that the 31-year-old or James Milner could leave at the end of the season, with Grujic potentially returning from him loan spell at Hertha Berlin:

It’s possible that one of those two will move on. Much hinges on how (Marko) Grujic performs this season.

Can he do enough to convince Klopp that he’s ready to compete for a starting spot at Anfield?

Getting rid of Milner would seem a little needless, considering his vast experience and enduring quality.

Granted, he will be 34 by the time the summer arrives, but he can continue to be a solid squad member for another year.

Lallana is a different story, however, with the midfielder simply not offering enough, as well as being injury-prone.

He did play well in a No.6 role at MK Dons in midweek, in fairness, but he is too often anonymous when used in bigger games.

Grujic is an exciting prospect who is young, physical and technical, so it makes sense to bring him in for Lallana, who will likely depart for a lesser Premier League side.
