James Milner will not be changing his decision to retire from international football with England despite his excellent performance in front of Gareth Southgate mid-week, according to The Times.
Milner, who played a vital part in Liverpool’s 3-0 Champions League win over Manchester City, has said calling time on his England career following the 2016 Euro’s has benefited him.
The 32-year-old believes that Southgate will look to take a much younger team and feels he has also benefited from time off by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp during international breaks.
the 71-capped English international played outstanding alongside fellow Englishmen Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in Liverpool’s first leg win against top of the table Manchester City.
Henderson and Oxlade-Chamberlain did everything in their power to increase their stocks for the upcoming world cup as Southgate watched over.
The former Arsenal winger has reinvented himself under Klopp this season playing as a more central midfielder and has excelled and added more elements to his game.
Whilst England’s central midfield has been identified as a weak spot, Oxlade-Chamberlain could see himself getting a call-up to the England squad for the upcoming world cup, especially considering James Milner won’t be coming out of retirement.
