Liverpool return to winning ways in the Champions League with a resounding 4-0 over Red Star Belgrade at Anfield. A brace from Mohamed Salah and a goal each for Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane ensured a satisfying victory for the Reds against the Serbian opponents.

Xherdan Shaqiri started it all off by winning the ball in midfield and executing a well-timed pass for Andrew Robertson, whose cutback for Firmino was too good for the Belgrade defence. The Brazilian opened the scoring with a deflected effort.

Shaqiri was in action again before half-time when he cushioned the ball into the path of Salah and the Egyptian unerringly scored from his weaker foot.

The second half was to be about finishing the job, and the Reds did exactly that.

Liverpool were slightly fortuitous when the referee gave a penalty after Mane was fairly blocked in the box by the Belgrade captain, but Salah stepped up and scored his second of the night to confirm three points.

Daniel Sturridge then provided the assist for Mane late on to make it 4-0 after the Senegalese winger had missed a penalty of his own. In the other result of the group, PSG only managed to draw at home to Napoli, meaning Liverpool are now leading the way in Group C, with the Italians second and the French champions third.
