Liverpool are about to add another youngster to their ranks, with James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo reporting that 18-year-old striker Taiwo Awoniyi is soon to arrive.
The Nigerian – who has represented his country at Under-15, Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 levels – will join from Imperial Academy before being sent on a season-long loan.
Kirkby Academy staff have been keeping a watchful eye on the young striker, and the Echo claim that Monaco and Porto were also keen on recruiting him.
The Reds’ inability to secure a work permit for Awoniyi means that he will be shipped out to either Belgian or Holland for the current campaign, says Pearce.
The Echo reporter also notes that once this season is over, Liverpool intend to bring the teenager to the Academy, where he will join the rest of Michael Beale’s Under-21s squad.
It has been revealed by Nigeria Under-23s spokesman Timi Ebikagboro that the player is missing a pre-All Africa Games training camp so that he can travel to Merseyside and complete the formalities of the deal.
