Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has admitted he was surprised to see Trent Alexander-Arnold amongst the substitutes on Wednesday evening.
The Reds went on to battle to a 1-1 draw at Anfield, with Arnold coming on late in the second half.

Joe Gomez was preferred at right-back to Arnold and it is a decision which Owen did not see coming. As quoted on the Metro, he said:
I was surprised that Trent Alexander-Arnold didn’t start, I must say. He just gives them so much width and attacking crosses.
Should Arnold have started?

Yes. The young full-back’s crosses are some of the best in the world and the Reds were clearly missing his expert deliveries.
Gomez tried to replicate the quality of his compatriot, but his crosses were quite inaccurate and easy to defend against.
Arnold has been playing every game and Klopp has to think ahead with plenty of fixtures coming up, so maybe it can be argued to be a sensible decision from the boss.
